Salsa Macha Paste — All the Flavor, Concentrated
Everything you love about Salsa Macha, packed into a thicker, spoonable paste. We grind toasted almonds, sesame seeds and dried chili peppers into a dense, deeply savory paste bound with premium avocado oil — less loose oil, more flavor per spoonful. Use it as a cooking base or spread it straight onto bread. One 8 oz jar, handmade in small batches in Houston, Texas.
The Only Angel's Cocina Macha Made Without Peanuts or Pistachios
Our Salsa Macha jars are built on peanuts or pistachios. This one is different: it is made with almonds. If you have been looking for a chili crisp or salsa macha that skips peanuts entirely, this is the jar. It still contains sesame and tree nuts (almonds) — see the full allergen note below.
How Hot Is It? Medium-Hot.
Honestly: it is hotter than our regular Salsa Macha, because grinding concentrates the chilies. But it is not a punishing, novelty-hot product. Think a confident, warming heat that builds — enough to notice, not enough to drown the almonds, sesame and garlic underneath. If our Spicy Salsa Macha is comfortable for you, this is one clear step up.
Two Ways to Use It
1. As a cooking base. This is where the paste really earns its place:
- Marinade: Loosen a spoonful with oil, citrus or vinegar and rub it into chicken, pork, shrimp or steak before grilling.
- Sauce starter: Melt a spoonful into a hot pan before adding tomatoes, stock or cream for an instant depth of flavor.
- Noodles and rice: Toss through hot noodles, fried rice or roasted potatoes straight from the pan.
- Dressings and dips: Whisk into vinaigrette, stir into mayo, yogurt, hummus or sour cream.
2. As a spread. Thick enough to hold its shape on a knife:
- On warm toast or crusty bread, with or without butter
- Layered into sandwiches, tortas, wraps and quesadillas
- Swirled into cream cheese or soft goat cheese for a fast party dip
- On a cheese or charcuterie board, alongside honey and aged cheese
- Spooned over fried or scrambled eggs, avocado toast, or grilled vegetables
Ingredients
Seven ingredients. Nothing artificial, no preservatives, no fillers.
- Avocado Oil — a heart-healthy oil high in monounsaturated fats, with a clean flavor that lets the chilies come through
- Sesame Seeds — toasty, nutty depth and a source of healthy fats and minerals
- Dried Chili Peppers — the backbone: smoky, earthy heat
- Almonds — ground for body and a gentle, buttery richness
- Onion — savory sweetness that rounds out the chilies
- Garlic — aromatic and essential
- Salt
Naturally vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free.
Questions We Get Asked
Does it contain peanuts?
No. This paste is made with almonds. It contains no peanuts and no pistachios.
What are the allergens?
Contains tree nuts (almonds) and sesame. Sesame is a major allergen. Made in a kitchen that also handles peanuts and other tree nuts.
How is this different from your Salsa Macha?
Salsa Macha is a loose, crunchy, spoon-over condiment with whole nuts and seeds suspended in oil. The Paste is ground finer and holds together — thicker, more concentrated, and better suited to cooking and spreading than drizzling.
How spicy is it?
Medium-hot. Hotter than our standard Salsa Macha, but not an extreme-heat product.
How should I store it, and how long does it keep?
Store it in the pantry at room temperature. Shelf life is 3 months. No refrigeration needed, before or after opening.
What size is the jar?
8 oz.
Is it vegan and gluten-free?
Yes, both.
Where is it made?
Handmade in small batches in Houston, Texas, and sold at Houston farmers markets — Memorial Villages, Tomball, Rice Village and Heights Mercantile.
